Sketchbook vol 21

This week's drawings. Reading BPRD Plague of Frogs all week and loving the creature designs. These are my own drawings inspired by the Ogdru Hem. I love Mignola and everything Mignolaverse as is probably obvious. I am so envious of Guy Davis and Mike that they manage to distill so much into such graphic forms, no surplus, just iconic. I, on the other hand have a tendency to over-do things, I love adding detail and texture. I need to just draw more designs and stop adding colour and rendering to my stuff but I get carried away! I guess that's the thing with 3D too, you can't really suggest things, everthing has to be defined. Many of our favourite monsters are often left in shadow or not shown at all, merely hinted at....it's a lot scarier to leave the viewer to imagine their own darkest fear. But at some point monsters or creatures do need some physical form. It's a tricky problem if you want to create monsters, where do you leave room for the mystery? Nosferatu or Alien, Thev Witch movie, ..the fear comes from the Unknown, from the dark.
